About me

Hi there.  As promised, a bit about me.

I am 40 (and a bit) and love all types of fitness and being healthy in general.  I also love my family, my dog and caffeine.

I was the captain of a cross country team that had a future Commonwealth athlete in it – he used to always win!

I came in the top 10 of an International Matathon in 2007 (Great Wall of China Marathon).

I won the Ballykelly Half Marathon – has anyone ever heard of it though?

When I was a student, I rode my bike from Singapore to Sydney.

I have been into exercise since I got a super cool mountain bike in 1989.  I still have that bike, a Specialized Stumpjumper Comp.

I once ate a catering size tin of baked beans in 10 minutes to win a bet.  It wasn’t worth it.

When I was younger, I worked in a bike shop.

I walked around the Peruvian Andes for 10 days, completed self supported, carrying all my own food and equipment.

I race bikes and compete in running events as often as I can.

I have a couple of nicknames:  The Calorie Cowboy and Happy Dog.

I believe that it is impossible to own too many bikes.  There is one caveat, which I will write about one day.

During a Spanish Cycle Training Camp, I won a prize for being the “Best Person To Have In Your Group” – such a team player!

I came 2nd overall in the London to Edinburgh 400 mile bike ride in 2013 (second mouse gets the cheese)!

I have followed the Tour de France since 1989 – what a battle between Lemond and Fignon (RIP).  I love the Tour de France so much that I have decided to ride the whole route in 2015.  Please follow this link to read about the challenge and have a look at my blog posts in July 2015 to read about the daily stages.

I really want to see Mount Everest some day soon.

Dodgeball is one of my Top 10 Favourite Films.

I am obsessed with Burpees.

I have met the Prince of Wales.
